Meet The Team – Ri3D 1.0 – Robby Wallace
Robby Wallace once killed a shark with his bare hands by fashioning a spear gun from a sword fish and seaweed.
He built his first car when he was 3. When he graduated college he was so bored with building cars for the ground he began to build them for the sky. True Story, that last part is real life. Robby Wallace is a mechanical engineer for a company called ITEC who manufactures a new type of flying car called the Maverick. That’s him in the car below. It’s legit. Robby is the definition of the engineer’s engineer. He can do the math and turn the wrench and he quite possibly machined the wrench he needed to turn.
Prototyping just about anything is his forte and he is the secret to Ri3d 1.0’s success. Robby graciously donates his shed and tools each year for Ri3D to compete in the 72 hour build off . Upon realizing in 2013 that we’d outgrown his shed, he promptly purchased a home on 5 acres of land and proceeded to build a 3,000 sq. ft. “shed” which could also be referred to as a manufacturing facility.
Robby graduated with his B.S.M.E. from the University of Central Florida in 2010 at which point he started working for ITEC. Robby is also a co-founder of iR3 Creative Engineering and the Modulox product line of modular gearboxes. Prior to graduating Robby was a co-founder of and mentor for FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1902 Exploding Bacon and participated on FRC team 1083 The Emoticons in high school.
